North West Germany

There are 120 figures from the Old and New Testaments carved into this altar screen dating back to the 13th century. Cismar Abbey is also known as the 'place of banishment for merry monks' due to the story about unseemly relations between the monks and nuns at the Lubeck Cloister. They were sent to the bleak Baltic Coast as punishment and they settled here.
